Thank you to everyone for all of your support!  My commitment to serve the public interest was formed early on in my career beginning with an internship at the Bronx Legal Aid Society, followed by an externship with the Family Court in White Plains, NY.  Being a part of a system that assisted people going through important times in their lives, I knew we were making a difference. I decided my legal career would be dedicated to helping those that needed assistance.  From my start as a bilingual staff attorney for the Pace Women’s Justice Center, protecting domestic abuse survivors, to assisting clients in private practice and ultimately the last 12 years as a Court Attorney in the Westchester County Family Court, my desire and commitment to serve the public has only grown.  To be able to continue this service in the community my family calls home and insure our residents are treated with a fair and unbiased judiciary would be an honor and a privilege,”

About Maritza

Maritza Fugaro-Norton has been a Court Attorney in the Westchester County Family Court for the last 12 years. She earned her law degree from Pace University School of Law in 2003 and obtained her undergraduate degree from Manhattan College in 2000. Admitted to practice law in the Second Judicial Department in 2004, her legal career began at the Pace Women’s Justice Center where she represented victims of domestic violence and litigated all family law matters on their behalf. Her fluency in Spanish was an asset enabling her to assist clients in which English was their second language. Following the Pace Women’s Justice Center, she worked for a private law firm in Yonkers, New York handling a wide variety of cases including Matrimonial and Family Law, Criminal Law, Bankruptcy Law, Personal Injury Litigation and Real Estate transactions. Maritza chose to accept her current position in the Westchester County Family Court as she wished to make a commitment to public service which continues to this day. Maritza is admitted to practice before the Courts in the State of New York, and the United States District Courts for the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York.

Born and raised in Yonkers, New York, Maritza graduated from Gorton High School. She was raised in a bilingual family as her mother immigrated from Venezuela. Her father, a local union member and former ice dancer, introduced her to figure skating at a very young age. She developed a love for the sport, and the competition, training up to 6 days a week including practices before and after school. Maritza credits the focus and discipline that was needed to be a competitive skater with developing and instilling a work ethic that has helped her career. After retiring from skating, she remains very involved in the sport and enjoys teaching children to skate. For the last 14 years, Maritza has resided in Cortlandt Manor, New York with her husband, Michael Norton and their three children, Gisela, Larena and Landon.
